Let's get to know each other
I’m more than just a chopping board, I’m your new kitchen bestie. I’m here for the foodies - the home cooks with great taste (that’s you!). My mission? To make your kitchen more joyful and boost your mood with every use. I'm made from 100% recycled plastic, that would otherwise be destined for landfill. You lot have plenty of names for me: cutting board, chopping block, bread board, carving board, or butcher block - but I also go by "Australia’s Best Chopping Board". And here's why:
I’ve turned my life around!: Look, we all have a past, right!? I used to be a bunch of discarded plastic - now look at me, living my best life as a sleek and sexy designer chopping board!
I love a spa day: Chuck me in the dishwasher on a cycle under 60 degrees celcius for fuss-free clean ups.
I'm a clean freak: I'm non-porous, so I don’t absorb staining liquids, odours, or bacteria like a stinky old wooden chopping board does.
I'm free from nasties: I am free from BPAs and PFAs, which means I'm completely safe to eat off. I am made from recycled HDPE plastic (such as those commonly used to make milk bottles).
I’ve got a green thumb: With each chopping board made, 1.5kg of plastic is kept out of landfill. I can then be recycled when my chopping days are over.
Colour is my thing: More is more in my opinion, life is too short for boring chopping boards. I hope to spark joy and make your kitchen pop 🌈
I'm bit of a perfectionist: Meat, veggies, or bread? My chopping board colours help keep everything separate and super organised, reducing cross-contamination with colour-coded chopping boards.
I'm in it for the long haul: As I'm crafted from high-quality plastic, I am durable and long-lasting as I'm resistant to warping or splitting. Plus, I'm low maintenance, so no need for rubbing oil on me, although that does sound kinda nice 🙊
Call me a chameleon: I'm so clever I can double as a serving platter, aka chic charcuterie board! Pass me the cheese! 🍇🧀
Meet my Mum...the founder of Ruey
Hi there! I’m Alyce, the founder behind Ruey. I’m SO excited to share my colourful designer chopping boards with you!
Why chopping boards?
The idea came from a very simple frustration - I hated doing the washing up! Who wants to spend extra time scrubbing with their hands in hot soapy water, in the ridiculous Queensland heat!? That's a no from me! So I decided to create the unicorn of all chopping boards, one that is dishwasher-friendly and makes clean-up a breeze. And so, Ruey was born.
As a busy (and slightly chaotic) household, the kitchen is the heart of our home. It's where special moments are made in the everyday mundane tasks like making school lunches, prepping dinner, and unpacking the dishwasher. The chef-offs, kitchen boogies, pancake flipping, and deep chats over dippy eggs are the memories I'll cherish the most. These days I’m running Ruey while also navigating life as a single mum, which means life can be full-on, but it’s also what fuels my love for creating products that make everyday life just a little bit easier. And that's where my trusty chopping boards come into play- less time cleaning up means more time doing what you love, with those that you love!
What’s the story behind the name Ruey?
The name Ruey came from my baby name list. After welcoming my third child and knowing I was done with the baby-making business (because, chaos!), I decided to use it for my fourth "baby" - my new business venture! My kids helped choose the bright funky colours of each board, and the names of each board were inspired by our favourite holiday destinations.
Why did you choose HDPE as the material?
Choosing HDPE for our chopping board material was a no-brainer! Not only is it durable, non-porous, light-weight, anddd dishwasher-safe, it's also sustainable, which is super important to me. I want to set a good example for my kids by teaching them the importance of taking care of our beautiful Earth. By using recycled plastic, we may not be saving the entire Earth on our own, but we’re definitely doing our part to reduce waste, and every little bit counts.
Describe Ruey in three words...
Elevated, bold and playful.
Alyce, what’s your go-to meal to chop up on a Ruey board?
You can't go wrong with tacos, I just love all the fresh condiments.
I have poured all our love into these chopping boards and I have a feeling you will love them just as much as I do x
